Microsoft will be turning off Basic Authentication for E-mail for all tenants starting October 1, 2022.
You can read the official announcement from Microsoft here: Microsoft Announcement
This means that any device that is sending/receiving email must use modern authentication. Depending on the age and technical capabilities of your device it may or may not work. Below we provide a breakdown of common devices.
Printers/Copiers:
Many printers/copiers will not be compatible with modern authentication and some previously used workarounds are not compatible with Microsoft’s new security defaults. Plus 1 Technology has a smtp service which clients can opt-in to use for $5 month which would allow for scan to email to continue working for most devices.
Cell Phones and Tablets:
Plus 1 Technology strongly recommends that our clients use the Outlook app on their phones and tablets. If you are using the default mail app or another mail application it may or may not work based on the device or version of the app. Plus 1 Technology does not support the use of these applications and if they discontinue working, we recommend you migrate to using the Outlook app.
Other devices:
If your company has any other devices using 365 email settings to send or receive email, I would reach out to us and we can determine the correct course of action.
